We have lived in this area for the last 15 years. My family has enjoyed eating at this place for years until recently. My mom and sister went out to dinner and as it turns out, she was charged twice. One charge for $39.80 and the other for $47.76. The $39.80 was the correct charge and she had a cash tip. She called and they refused to deal with her. She is getting the info from her bank to show the times the transactions took place. Sounds like she paid for someone elses meal! Needless to say, we won’t be eating there ever again!
Kim, when exactly did this happen?
It was Sunday 11/2 at 5:58 p.m.
She spoke with Robert Garcia and he was very short with her. His response was “the bank must have done it.” Her receipt says 5:58, but the $47.56 was 5:55. So, sounds like the waitress used her card for two bills.
I’ve met Robert and I know they aren’t up to anything underhanded, he is very accommodating and will do whatever it takes to resolve issues like this. He’s tried to contact you to come in and resolve this, why don’t you take your statement/receipts in and get it cleared up? If you have been going there for 5 years and you’re ready to boycott them over an alleged double charge that they are willing to review and reverse if necessary, what’s up?
He didn’t ask my mother to come in with her statements/receipts…she told him that she was going to bring them in since they did not feel that they had made an error. I don’t think he was being underhanded either, but if a customer calls to tell you that they feel they have been double charged, shouldn’t they suggest this rather than the customer? They only suggested that “The bank must have done it.”
I’m not sure who did what, all I’m saying is resolve the issue with them and don’t bash them online. Geist people complain that we don’t have enough places to eat out here, there aren’t enough choices. Then we get a new owner trying to take a place and offer a nice, upgraded menu and environment and we take shots at them for something that probably isn’t their fault. I’m sure if it is, they will refund the money.
Sorry Tom, my intentions weren’t to “bash” this gentlemen. I was only looking out for my Mom and others in the area. In fact, I’m pretty sure that she lives close to you. I have been reading your great magazine and checking out your website since the get go. I happen to work in the dept that approves sponsorship opportunities, and was thrilled to hear that the company that I work for was the title sponsor for the Geist marathon since I have grown up in the area. It just so happend that my mother called me while I was on your website to tell me about what had happened to her the other night and there happened to be a story about them. I’m sure she will get her issue resolved.
thanks for the background. What happens on these kinds of transactions generally is the restaurant will put a hold on a credit card in their system and then perform the transaction when you check out. Both will show up on your online banking, but only one clears (the transaction) and the other that is the “hold” amount falls off. My guess is when this clears the bank, she’ll have the bill for the $47 and the other charge will not go through. No need to panic.
Yes, community is a great sponsor and local supporter of the geist half and a bunch of other great events. Nothing personal on all this, I just get a little defensive with local businesses. Thanks for clearing that up and I’m positive Robert will make things right if in fact something was billed wrong. Thanks Kim!
I was worried that you were taking it personal as I was not bashing the guy. I simply said that we didn’t intend to go back. I have friends that won’t go back to a place if they find a hair in their food, basically the same thing. We had a bad experience, and I’d rather take my business somewhere else. The only reason I gave my background was to let you know that I wasn’t some Joe Shmo. Mom and Dad live in Feather Cove on Courageous Dr. and my sister and I went to L.N. As our parents get older, we tend to try to protect them. My husband and I are big community supporters. We always like to go to the smaller local guys, so I understand why you are defensive. I was just disappointed in how it was handled.
