Get Ready to Pay for College

The first bill for a college-bound student’s education might still be months away, but Learn More Indiana is reminding families to take an important step now that will help with paying college expenses this fall.
Specifically, every family with a college-bound member needs to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) correctly and on time. There is no cost to apply, it never hurts to try, and it is the only way students can truly know their financial aid eligibility.
The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or by calling the Learn More Indiana Helpline at 1-800-992-2076. To be considered for the most financial aid options, the U.S. Department of Education must receive the FAFSA by March 10.
Financial aid includes federal grants and loans, most resources provided by the state of Indiana and institutional support provided by some colleges and universities. It can help pay for tuition and fees, room and board and other education-related expenses.
Filling out the FAFSA can be intimidating, but help is available. If you missed College Goal Sunday Feb. 11, you can still get help on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. This online version of the FAFSA walks applicants though the process, which helps prevent simple mistakes like forgetting to complete all required parts. To complete the FAFSA on the Web, both students and parents need a Student Financial Aid PIN, which they can apply for at www.pin.ed.gov. Families without Internet access can request a paper version of the FAFSA from the Learn More Indiana Helpline at 1-800-992-2076.
