The Internet: Find Out What Your Kids Know

Parents in Partnership announces first in 2008 Parents Awareness

Hamilton Southeastern’s Parents in Partnership has announced its 2008 Parent Awareness Night series. The purpose of Parents in Partnership is to help keep children safe from drugs, alcohol and other negative influences in society.  With that goal in mind, the group will offer three Parent Awareness Nights this spring.

“The Internet:  Find Out What Your Kids Know,” will be the topic of the first evening.  This program will be at the Hamilton Southeastern High School Little Theater on Tuesday, January 22, from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Detective Dan Claassen of the Fishers Police will speak and answer questions from the public. Detective Claassen has worked to stop Internet predators targeting children in our area.  Also speaking will be Mark Carter of Carter Computer Solutions. Mark is knowledgeable about software that parents can use to track their children’s Internet use and to block undesirable usage. This meeting is for parents only.

“Household Products and Medications:  The Hidden Drugs in Your Home,” will be at the Fishers Junior High School Large Group Instruction Room on Thursday,

February 28, from 7-8:45 p.m.  Experts in the field of drug prevention and recovery will be discussing inhalant, prescription drug and over-the-counter medication abuse.  Also appearing will be a recovering student.  This session is also for parents only.  Those with children in grades 5-8 are highly encouraged to attend.

Finally, on Wednesday, March 26, from 7-8:45 p.m., we will present “Drinking, Driving and High Risk Behavior: The Effects on a Family.” This compelling presentation will be given by Steve Mason, a father who lost his son.  Kitty Greene, state executive director from MADD, will also be presenting. This event will be in the Fishers High School Auditorium.  Parents are encouraged to bring their teenagers to this presentation, which will open the door for a shared experience and good conversation. This event will take place just prior to spring break and prom season.

All three of these seminars are free and open to the public.
