The Bag Lady Boutique Offers ‘Real Sizes with Real Prices’

Bag Lady's Missy Card The Bag Lady Boutique is the newest addition to the Fall Creek shops at the corner of Brooks School and Fall Creek Road. The whimsical bag lady on the storefront catches your eye, along with the words “Real Sizes with Real Prices.”

If you think that’s different for a boutique, that is exactly what owner and Geist resident Missy Card wants you to think! Card– who distributes to shops nationwide — says she’s trying to address a common complaint women have about boutique shopping.

“They think you have to be a Size 2 and pay a lot to shop boutiques,” says Card. “I wanted to be different– I offer clothing in realistic sizes at realistic prices.”

A quick glance at some of the price tags does command a double take now and then. A fur-lined denim jacket in the window was priced at $36. Rhinestone embellished jeans were $39, and watches were $19. In fact, on the day I visited the store, I couldn’t find anything over $50!

“Most of my prices are between $19 and $35,” explains Card. How does she do it? “I’m the designer and manufacturer both. That means a savings for the customer.”

Along with clothing and accessories, the Bag Lady Boutique also carries blue horseshoe apparel, some baby items and hostess gifts. I paired a holiday-embellished hand towel with a scented candle for under $20.

The Bag Lady Boutique looks more expensive than it is, with a spacious floor plan, bright red walls and oversized mirror (all left behind from a previous boutique tenant). The new store is conveniently located right next to Mama Bear’s coffee shop, so the next time you pick up a cup of java, you could slip in next door and look for a bargain or two. And if you find one, The Bag Lady Boutique will gladly “bag” it up for you!
