When Dave Weidmayer first spotted the so-called Sun Towel, he thought, “where have these been all my life?” As an avid boater living on Geist, the Sun Towel made sense. It’s a luxurious velour towel that’s made to cling to your lounge chair, or, hug your boat seat so it doesn’t fly away when you take off! There’s also three pockets in the back for accessories.

But,then, last year, that great idea suddenly became his “side” job.
His friend in Fort Wayne decided to get out of the towel business, so, Weidmayer, stepped in and took it over.
he 38-year-old Financial advisor gathered up the remaining inventory of towels and brought them to his Geist home. “I had Sun Towels everywhere…in the closets and in the garage!” he adds.
He now stores them in a warehouse in Indianapolis.
The Sun Towel is actually known as the lifestyle towel.
They are used for recreational purposes such boating and poolside but, they can also be used in the car to protect the seats. “Fido” the family dog can sit on his own Sun Towel to help keep the car clean.
They are also attracting the attention of the medical/healthcare/assisted living industry as the towels can be used in many ways such as over wheelchairs for added comfort.
The lifestyle/Sun Towel business has been growing steadily since Weidmayer took it over last year.
Most of the business is by word of mouth and friend Leslie Wilson helps promote and distribute the towels.
“It’s a fun business,” says Wilson. “It is easy promoting something that is not only enjoyable but, useful as well!”
The towels come in three sizes, a variety of colors and can be personalized.
“You can pretty much get anything you want printed on the towel,” says Weidmayer. “Customers are getting business logos, Universities, even nicknames such as Diva, or Captain for the boaters,” he adds.
They hope to have the towels at the next Boat,Sport and Travel show and they are also working to improve the website so they can easily be ordered online.
