Spirit of Central Comes in 3rd at Nationals

Congratulations to the Spirit of Central marching band! Lawrence Central’s band took third place in the national Bands of America Grand National Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium Nov. 15.

Long-time rival Avon captured the title.

It was a reversal from the state (ISSMA) contest on Nov. 1, also at Lucas Oil Stadium, when it was LC that won the large-school title while Avon finished second.

The ISSMA championship was LC’s fourth state win. Earlier this month, the Spirit of Central also won the Indianapolis regional championship in the Bands of America (BOA) competition and took top BOA honors in the categories of General Effect, Visual and Music.

The band put on three outstanding performances and set some new standards for the activity throughout the year, including scoring a personal best 96.65 in semi-finals.  At finals, the band received the caption award for highest achievement in the area of visual performance. They finished just .1 out of second place to LD Bell of Texas and 1.35 down to first place winner Avon.

Great job, Spirit of Central!
