NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP) – The missing pilot, Marcus Schrenker, has been found in Quincy, Florida, at a campsite. Investigators say he had slit his wrists.
Earlier Tuesday, a judge ordered the arrest of Indiana pilot, Marcus Schrenker, on financial fraud charges. Schrenker had been on the run after, police say, he staged a plane crash.
Investigators are now trying to figure out how to remove the plane and what to charge the pilot with. Deputies say Marcus Schrenker was heading from Indiana to Destin. When he was in northern Alabama, he jumped out of the plane, leaving it on autopilot.
It crashed in Milton, barely missing nearby homes. Investigators are still on scene trying to figure out what to do next.
Schrenker’s disappearance has perplexed authorities in three states as they scrambled to put together the pieces of what looked like an elaborate plan sketched out to escape financial doom. In the days before the crash, Schrenker’s home and business had been searched by authorities probing his financial management businesses, his wife filed for divorce, his stepfather died, and a court in Maryland entered a half-million-dollar judgment against him.

QUINCY, Fla. (AP) – An investment manager who staged a plane crash to evade the law was barely conscious and muttered the word “die” when federal agents found him bleeding from a slashed wrist, an investigator said Wednesday.
U.S. Marshals apprehended Marcus Schrenker, 38, late Tuesday at a northern Florida campground two days after the amateur daredevil pilot apparently tried to fake his own death in a plane crash. Authorities believe he parachuted to the ground and later sped off on a motorcycle he had stashed in central Alabama.
Frank Chiumento, an assistant chief with the U.S. Marshals in Florida, said officers had to tend to Schrenker’s self-inflicted gash to the wrist before he was airlifted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Schrenker was listed in fair condition early Wednesday.
The gash was “very serious at the time,” Chiumento said. “He was bleeding profusely from the wounds to the left arm.” Besides the slashed wrist, there was a puncture wound near his elbow.
Schrenker was semiconscious and muttering single words but appeared to resist first aid from the marshals.
Statement from Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita: “I’m pleased to learn of the successful capture of Marcus Schrenker and want to acknowledge the quick actions and dogged efforts of fellow law enforcement agencies including the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office, the United States Marshals, local authorities in Alabama and Florida and others.
The work by my Securities Division will continue in pursuit of a successful prosecution and in an effort to account for and recover investor assets.”
Nothing about that documentary surprised me. Actually, it came off just the way I figured it would. Do you really think Michelle Schrenker would go on national television and admit that she knew what was going on, or that she was a part of it? If YOU were in her shoes, would you? That would be ridiculous. I certainly didn’t see any facial expressions that I would call a smirk. The network will show only what they want to show. This is THEIR story, not Michelle’s nor Tom’s or anyone else on the show. Most of the time, people are coached on how to act, or how not to act.
With out a doubt she had her attorney with her during this interview and there certainly are things that she could not talk about and I feel confident her salary issue that was one of them. As far as the Delta pilots case, people cannot, and should not talk about this if they don’t know the details. Maybe she did not know, maybe she knew a little but decided it wasn’t enough to be included. As far as previous bankruptcies, I can see where it “might” be mentioned at a trial but I see nothing relevant to the Dateline show. Remember, this was not a history of Marcus Schrenker. This show was about a pilot that bailed out of his plane and the recent events that led up to it.
I think they may have stereotyped the residents of Geist. Sure, there are few people accused of crimes in that area and a few that have been convicted but that doesn’t give the right to group everyone and say it is a Payton Place or something like that. Affluent areas and not so affluent areas are subject to the same incidents. Plenty of hard working people living there fro sure and envy is an evil thing.
As far as Tom Britt, he is just like the rest of us. He learns something everyday so yes, his views may change. Why should he defend something or someone when he finds out more of the truth that changes his mind? Maybe he is on the border like a lot of us. There is one thing that most people do not know about these TV shows. There is extensive editing that takes place…and I mean extensive. For instance, in Tom’s interview, he would have been interviewed for one to two hours. As they piece the story together, his two hours is cut down to less than two minutes total, if that much. Tom, Michelle, or anyone else for that matter could tell them anything they wish but that doesn’t mean it will make the show. I know there are things that Tom wanted to be quoted on but they decided not to use it.
The best thing is to wait until a trial, if there is one and let it play out like it should. This Nancy Grace style of opinion is unfair to the family and friends that are trying to get by in this fiasco. Speaking of friends, like I said earlier about Rachel Handley, people better hope they have friends that will come to their aid, right or wrong, in a time of need. Guilty or no guilty, Michelle and her kids are in need right now and I commend those who are trying to keep things going for them.
At Geist.com is an excellent source of information for this and other more important topics and Tom Britt has done one heck of a job keeping it together so heck yeah, I am glad he got his due exposure. That was priceless as far as advertising goes. At Geist received national, if not world wide publicity. For a guy to operate a website of this quality and size, it takes money and I don’t think I have seen one place that REQUIRES anyone to “pay to play” so, way to go Tom!!
One thing I forgot to mention. How many people here knew that Marcus Schrenker was hired as a Security Consultant at the Indy Airport after the 911 attacks? Dateline did not mention that either but he wore a hidden camera and microphone and walked right past security and other check points, right out on the tarmac with all the jets. One major airline vendor got a hefty fine because of his work.
The point I am trying to make here is that many stories that have surfaced have not been played out so much in the mainstream media, such as the Dateline segment. I am NOT defending Marcus or anyone else but I do defend people that are getting beat up on before all the facts are know.
I am sure atGeist (Tom) has more info on this Indy Airport incident in his vault of information and can share that with us.

Perhaps you watched a different show than I did if you did not see her smirk. Its clearly there. Obvious in fact.
As far as the delta case I have posted documents related to it. So its all there for everyone to see. He was looking to make a quick buck and got in over his head. Its very easy to see. Its public record of what he did and what he said. The only thing that has been removed is his deposition because Delta was going to hammer him and expose him as a fraud.
What do you not see relevant about the past banktruptcies and moves? You are kidding right? This has everything to do with the story and this whole case. Just goes to show what a fraud he really was…and a terrible financial person at that.
As far as them stereotyping geist people..it is what it is. He said it best when he said people with “new money”. Thats all geist is…people with new money…and we all know what new money means.
My only hangup with Tom Britt is this exchange.

Why was none of this mentioned when he was doing the Tom Brit national TV tour? WHY?????? Thats either so made up to fit this show, or he didnt have enough guts to call it what it was early on.
As far as the people helping. I totally agree. Nice that she has people she can count on because she is going to need them. Rokita and the state are going to make and example out of the both of them. Im trying times like these when it comes to money….lets just say that they picked a bad time to get caught.
As far as AtGeist.com and its success. I am happy to see Tom Britt turn a small thing into something big and wish him much success. As a business owner myself, I know what it was like to have that dream and to look back and see what hard work has created…well its pretty darn sweet. He got national attention and I am all for that. I hope his advertising went through the roof and continues to do so. It seems like its his passion and for that I am happy for him.
As far as your story about Marcus and his “security” work…talk about something not related to the subject. Not the same balkpark…might not even be the same sport.

I just want to chime in on this Chris Proffit banter on Dateline. Jack, I did talk about this in the beginning in numerous radio and tv interviews, including the Larry King interview (go to my personal blog http://www.tombritt.com to see it).
One of the lessons learned in this experience is that the news outlets will tape for :15 minutes up to an hour (as it was with Dateline) and they only use soundbites. Each one is looking for something new that has not been previously aired. In this case, Profitt is an NBC affiliate reporter and he mentioned this phone call in his interview, so they asked me about it as well.
I appreciate the well-wishes on atGeist.com, us small business owners have to cheer for each other in this or any economy.
In my opinion, the Dateline show on Friday evening was just a regurgitation of everything that we already know and have learned since the story first broke in January.
I agree with “Patrick” in that it seems that most of the episode was geared towards trying to generate public sympathy for Michelle as the victim in this whole thing. There she was again, the jilted wife with her fake tears claiming that she did not know about any of Marcus’ financial problems; didn’t know that the money that she was using to “pay bills” was investor money; that the State of Indiana is being so unfair to her by freezing all of her assets – blah, blah, blah – I’m still not buying any of it.
As a sidenote – I find it rather amusing that in the letter that Marcus wrote, he stated that he would be doing on-air interviews with all of the major networks, yet I have not seen nor heard anything about any of these interviews. Just another of Marcus’ lies?
Craig, dude – I’m also with Jack as far as your blog. If you were trying to come in with an angle you missed the landing by a long shot.
I was trying to post last night but we have a child sick so my focus was there but Jack summed up pretty much everything I wanted to recant with the exception of one thing, I dont see you saying our comments mean “squat” as Jack suggested but that you somehow see the Schrenkers in a more truthful light than we do. All of what we have discussed here has been about 90% fact based on her interviews, Marcus’s rants in letters, television reporting and documents that were made public knowledge.
As far as the BK’s specifically, Hell yes they should have been brought up. The special should have been called “Flying High then CRASHING HARD”. It was almost like there was more focus on his flying and plane tricks than how he paid for the damn plane in the first place! DUUUHHHH, with other peoples retirement and how did it keep going??? Well, run the program for a year or two and when you tap out your investors then BK the whole damn thing and start over either in a new state or put everything in your wife’s name or BOTH! That should have been involved in this Dateline special, not so much “poor Mrs.Schrenker”.
I do remember Tom saying that they better check the plane for a body and check the dental records – I think that was the same Chris Profitt interview and Tom mentioned that he thought “something was up” a long time ago. Tom, you did not need to defend yourself. Marcus emailed you on the lamb so you are forever involved.
The security thing too, if I recall Fox59 had a National News person on revisiting the time when Marcus called them repeatedly after 9/11 to say security at Indpls International was at risk and he could get all the way to a plane with no badge. They took him up on it and low and behold he did. I do not recall them saying he was doing security for Indy Areo but that it was an isolated incident and Marcus was bucking for some National attention. Now, with that being said that shows what a danger this dude is because he basically “talked” his way to a huge aircraft showing no badge to anyone.
Enoughalready – I have been LMFAO about Marcus saying he is “available” for interviews and this is my take. No one is interrested in talking with him!! He put himself out there and as far as we can see no one has taken him up on his “offer”. Remember, it was Marcus that called the NYPost for two days before someone finally called him back and that editors interview is on FOX59.com also. She looked like she was trying to keep from laughing. He is simply jealous that his wife is in the forefront and he is not. He wants some air time too. Poor little dude.
“Flying High then CRASHING HARD” Now that would have been a fitting title for sure. You mentioned them focusing on his flying etc…you are 100% correct. That is the “entertainment” part of any of those specials. If it were just about some guy that “madoff” with others money, we wouldn’t want to watch it. Same way with the Madoff bit, it is his lifestyle and the amount of money involved that keeps people interested. Sorta like the letter he wrote a few weeks back…Now thats some entertaining stuff huh? I think he needed a few more hours sleep before he fired those lines off.
You know Patrick and Jack (and the other posters), there is no doubt in my mind that he is guilty of taking this money illegally, and unethically. If you just take the info in his own letter and forget anything else that has been said, he is toast as far as I can see. I just want to hold off on judging his wife too much until more facts are laid out. Granted, the appearance of things and the series of events doesn’t look or sound good. For instance, the sudden withdrawal of money and the divorce filings. That speaks volumes BUT, it also smells of a woman scorned wouldn’t you agree? I know if I were in her shoes and all that BS was laid on my table, I’d be going out for the juggler (or how ever you spell it). MAybe she is smarter than we think and is laying low. This next remark is purely a defensive way of thinking but there is no doubt this is going to trial so why should she give out more info, or should I say ammo for the prosecution? She can play the game and that is obvious. Look who she is/was married to.
I think we all agree on the same things here and I am sure we all hope and want the best for the children and relatives. Like I said earlier, at least the madness has stopped and nobody else is losing money and hopefully they can somehow recoup their loses or parts thereof. Anything is better than nothing!
I don’t think Jack really meant “Squat” comment. I really do care what others think. I always have and hopefully will never lose that ability. I just tend to watch for awhile before expressing my thoughts. I guess in the big picture, what we on this blog thinks doesn’t mean one thing to his case. Unless of course one gets selected as a juror. Wouldn’t that be a hoot….!!

As far as the woman “scorned”, oh yea man that can cause more harm than anything BUT she has known about the affair for sometime. Her letter written through her attorney said that she was aware since early last year (prior to Valentines day) so even with the whole “can do” tude she can sport it was horrible timing for her to get a hair up her arrrse and withdraw all that money and file the day before the raid. It will be very interresting to find out how Marcus was “tipped off” as Michelle smirked when asked if she thought his trip to Florida with the tramp (my words) was because he knew about the raid. Now, why did she smerk?? My wife has said from the get go that women “smerk” when they are still enamered by the person they are asked about and have inside information that makes them “special”. Must be a woman thing- I just say “I dunno” and run away. So if she is implying he may have known and “flew the coup” before they came then how would she NOT know? Divorce, affair or not they were tight – an admission by her own words.
My buddy said that he (Marcus) went through computers like people go through underware. Could be he always wanted the most updated version of toys but given his business I would think that would be risky for his clients. If you think you have deleted something off of your hard drive, think again. You have to go pretty deep to remove info so unless he was very good at what he did in removing client sensative information or he just did not care. Either way, the multiple computers seized from the office and home will tell a tale. The boy is not that good, he does not even know how to spell check.

Would this be the states case all together? I thought after Florida that he would then be “tried” in Indianapolis and that they were still “uncovering evidence”. Would this be just one or two cases that would be “tried” with out him here? Courious.

Michelle took a huge dump on all of us again- I hate to say it, but it’s true. I think the best quote was predicting the “over/under” on how many days until Michelle and “the twins” are propped up at the bar at Sullivan’s on 1/2 price martini night (I believe it’s Thursdays) or Bella Vita, just waiting for some doooosh bag in his late 50′s early 60′s, with a little bit of cash left, to bail her out of this mess. Pat: come on big fella, just because I had to get away from the whole “At Geist” scene for a week or two, does not mean I am not who I was. To the contrary, in the words of Dennis Green “I AM WHO THEY THOUGHT I WAS!!!” In any event, I missed the whole Dateline video, although, I have read the transcript. Every person I spoke with pretty much had the same consensus-Michelle bombed again- big time. It’s like watching another Paris Hilton movie, thinking, “This one will be much better than the last stink bomb she was in” and then leaving half way through, disgusted at yourself for pissing away $9.50 on that garbage. Michelle needs to stay the hell away from TV-don’t they teach every first year law student in cases like this to tell your client to: SHUT THE HELL UP!!!!!
Nobody feels sorry for someone claiming to be “penniless” while they are wearing a $700 pair of jeans. (well, almost nobody, I kind of do, but NOBODY else does, least of all Rokita & Co.) They probably had a big party last Friday, watching Michelle on Dateline like a bunch of 20 somethings gathered together for the last episode of ‘Friends”, laughing their a$$es off at our favorite Geist damsel in distress. Why give the Sec. of State any more reason to be pissed off at you then they already are? You have a deer in the headlights gimp for an attorney, your story has more holes in it than a piece of swiss cheese, why the hell embarrass yourself on national TV??? Someone…….. ANYONE???? Who could possibly concoct such a horrendous strategy like this??? Schmid should be permanently banned from practicing law in the state after this sorry performance. one thought that I had about the Dateline show, is that for those of us that have been researching the case since it made news, we probably know more about it than most, so the show was mostly a waste of our time, time we could have much better spent commenting about it here : )
I don’t think that the facial expression was necessarily a smirk, it could have been nerves related, I am curious to see what facts do come out as this progresses as I believe that there is a ton of information that we are not yet privy to.

I don’t find the real situation amusing in the slightest, I am so terribly torn about what this situation is doing to 3 children, I hope that they realize that bad judgement comes in all sizes and that they will overcome. Thrilled to see that there is at least one couple that truly have their hearts in the right direction and are doing everything that they can to help make sure that the children are confident that they are not homeless, no matter what happens in June.

“awaiting”, I think we all have always had the kids in our first thoughts and prayers. My buddies said they are very well behaved and very smart kids. It seems the God Mother that appeared on Dateline is stable, she also seems to love the kids and my guess is they end up there either with their mother or with out. Its definatly the lesser of two evils. Either they continued to grow up with the influance that money buys happiness and its ok to steal or they grow up figuring out that money is a means and not the root of what life means. The latter is their future now and hopefully they will take a posative stance in life.
I do not wish them to never see their father again. He screwed up but he is still their father and hopefully he comes away from this a new person. What a great opprotunity for a huge life lesson. If he turns his life around then when he gets out of prison he could tell “his story” but only to show a posative at the end. The problem is that Marcus still seems to be all about Marcus and Michelle is all about Michelle. Lets hope that changes. Sometimes we are given chances to fall on our face to learn humality and find strenght to pick ourselves up. The Schrenkers have a grand opprotunity before them, worth much more than any million dollar house or planes value. A second chance at a honest life.

I’m still here – I check in from time to time and post info that I think is relevant or that someone may not have run across yet (as I did on 3/19 and 3/23).
But, let’s face it – this story has definitely run out of steam for the time being. I think we were all hoping for something out of the Dateline episode, but in reality, it offered nothing new to those of us following since the beginning. I think people have just grown tired of rehashing the same things over and over again.

BTW – I do think that “Geist Pilot” is the original GP. I think he went away for a awhile because he realized at some point that everyone else here was right in what they thought about Michelle and her whole “I’m totally innocent” routine. I think that because he had been so staunch in defending her for weeks, he just needed some time to regroup and wrap his mind around that fact that he had been duped by her the same way Marcus’ investors were duped by him.

The reason I am not thinking it really is not geistpilot is how his logs have been worded. Even though he “seemingly” has come to realize Michelle is foolish his context of words are usually more colorful. I am on the fence though, just not sure either way.
Enough- I still am supportive of Michelle, perhaps kind of like Ms. Galooly (Schrenkers mother) is supportive of him. Michelle is so far past the point of doing what I expected her to do, there’s not much left until the inevitable crash and burn- either hooking up with a shriveled up old fart with a couple of Benji’s in his pocket at Bella Vita, or having to be escorted out of the house come June 1 and ending up sleeping in the neighbors basement. She has done nothing, zilch, nada to garner support from anyone. She should be out working, no matter what kind of job, telling people that she has to raise her family alone because of that con artist lying cheating thief POS she was married to.
She shouldn’t even be able to mention his name without wanting to punch somebody’s lights out she should be enraged that that selfish a-hole put her family in the position it is now. We get none of that. No, what we get is “Marcus has made his apologies,” and “I really loved Marcus” without even a mention of all of the investors that he screwed in the process. I still believe Michelle knew nothing- if there was ever a wife that could have had the ole’ wool pulled over her eyes- Michelle is my gal. God love her!!!!
And, yes, Britt- what wer’e you thinking initiating all of this new “login” BS??? Most of the old posters here probably couldn’t figure out how to set up a Facebook account, let alone attempt to logon to ATGeist.com.
Heck with the plane crashing, I’m still mad about the guitar crashing video that Patrick posted. All over a couple of girls. Wives have no sense of humor any more. Ha………..

As I have said from the jump of this whole story that I thaught that Marcus would be back living in geist before long under a new tax i.d doing some kind of business. Business is in his blood and that is what his passion is. However Michelle lives some whole other life of greed taking the brunt of the conc… regardless how shamefull. Marcus..folks he has taken the hit and maybe just a bit more time, however Michelle has not faced those demons yet.

Lloyd: you’d think some people on here would have seen a freaking Coors Light commercial for God’s sake!! Does anybody know what ever happened to the mental evaluation on Schrenker that was supposed to be done last week? Also- I got to see the unedited “letter” that Marc wrote- the one where he said “let’s put the hatchets down” and “it would go over well with the voters if he were allowed to return to Indiana’ OR’d, of all things, anyhow, I was appalled at how Marc continuously threw Drew Geyer under the bus- basically blamed him for everything- probably even blamed Drew for his (Schrenkers)year long game of “hide the salami” with Kelly Bee.
Anybody want to lay odds on which Geist bachelor will be the first guy Michelle tries to put he wraps on?? Are any of the Throgmartin boys single? What about Greg A.?????
awaiting, sorry for the labor-intensive login process, but I had to do something to eliminate total anonymous postings. People posting their rants with an email address of “biteme@aol.com” won’t do it anymore. I deleted about 10 comments from early on before I reached tech support and found another workaround to increase the memory. None of the more recent comments have been deleted, mostly the short “one-liners” from early on that are irrelevant now.

I suspected that the reason that comments may have dropped off may have been due to the overcrowded issue but wasn’t sure. But Warmerclimates “OOMMMGGGGGGG” was one of my favorites, I will always keep it in my memory of memorable quotes on AtGeist. : )

Hey GP – I hear your cries dude and I can tell you are dissapointed. I would be lying if I said myself and my wife are not dissapointed. Guilty of knowing anything or not, we wanted to see her rise up for the kids sake. She seems to be expending so much energy just wanting the general public to feel sorry for her. Genuinally glad to have you back GP!
Can Mary give us a take from a Biblical perspective on where things stand now? Michelle is going to need to move (no pun intended) quick if she has any hope of having her own place. Somebody has to fork out some serious dough-re-mi and the only way they do that is if there is a little “trade off.” Sorry, gang, but I can’t make it any simpler than that.
When you are 35 years old with 3 kids, you are too damn old to be moving into the neighbor’s upstairs “Greg Brady” room. It just doesn’t work anymore.
Also- remember when “Getoveryourself” claimed that if “I stopped talking about Michelle, then so would everyone else??” I think she meant If I stopped talking and Michelle stopped going on national TV, then maybe, just maybe, people would put the kabosh on all of this.
