Naked Monkey Opens in Fishers

Naked Monkey 06-09 001 There’s no business like monkey business….especially when it’s the Naked Monkey business! The wildly popular waxing spa that opened in Carmel three years ago is enjoying tremendous success, and now a new monkey is swinging into Fishers– opening its doors in mid June at 8355 East 116th Street (near McCallister’s). Apparently, people don’t want to give up a good waxing….even in a sluggish economy!

Co-founders Brenda Schultz and Jeniffer Webber say business is good and they want to meet the needs of a growing clientele in the Fishers area.

“People may have a little less to spend, but they just don’t want to give up the few things that make them feel good, like waxing!” says Brenda. “Sometimes a spouse will encourage their partner to return to the spa on a regular basis. We’ve saved a lot of marriages!”

The Naked Monkey offers a variety of spa services in a fun, easy-going atmosphere. For women, there are facials, massages and waxing, including the popular bikini and Brazilian wax. For men — yes, men — there also are a variety of services and waxing for just about any part of the body.

“About 30 percent of our business is men,” says Brenda. “Once they see what we can do, they love it!” Two popular items on the menu for men include the Brazilian wax and the baboon wax job. Without going into great detail here, let’s just say the Brazilian has more to do with the front side, and the baboon, the backside! They also do some waxing for athletes, such as swimmers and cyclists.

Naked Monkey 06-09 007 Brenda and Jennifer, who describe themselves as “polar opposite Virgos,” are actually related by marriage. However, they never really discussed business until just a few years ago.

“Brenda usually walked out of the room when I walked in at family gatherings!” jokes Jeniffer. “Then we finally talked.” Jeniffer always knew she wanted to open a spa, and Brenda always knew she wanted a business. She just didn’t know what kind! So the spa was born, and Brenda thought up the name Naked Monkey.

“I thought it made perfect sense. You remove the hair….you’re just a naked monkey!”

Naked Monkey 06-09 002 They hope to open more Naked Monkey spas, if needed, and they are also debuting their own professional skin and body line, “Naked.” There are even Naked Monkey golf balls!

If you decide to “swing” into the Fishers spa sometime soon, be sure to check out the great portrait of, well, a half-naked monkey on the wall!
