Only a few months after the client notice from the Log Cabin Animal Hospital indicating that they had a new owner, the historic keystone on Fall Creek Parkway is a ghost town.
No Dr. Sandor Gal. No Dr. Betsy Hutchins. All the assistants are gone. No dogs barking in the back room.
Dr. Keith Gaines who practices in Louisville, Kentucky, is not in the office, nor is he expected to be in the office in the near future. Clients are being referred to the Fall Creek Animal Hospital on 96th and Olio Road.
If you are trying to retrieve medical records for your pet, I found the “old” link online (thanks Google).

In the meantime, we have to mourn the disappearance of Dr. Gal, a long-time friend and great vet. He saved our cat a few years ago by coming in on a weekend from his son’s birthday party to do surgery. He is no longer affiliated with the Log Cabin Animal Hospital and it’s a shame. Dr. Gaines took the heart out of the practice and I think he’s reaping the consequences.

This is too bad. Dr. Gal was our resident Geist historian and a genuinely nice man. He helped ease our dog’s pain during his final months of life. I’m stunned that he left his practice in the historic log cabin that he made feel more like a lodge than a sterile vet clinic.
Log Cabin Animal Hospital is open. I visited recently and it was great. Dr. Gaines was wonderful and took great care of my dog. All of the new staff were great too. Everyone that has a pet should give Log Cabin Animal Hospital visit. I am sure you will love it. Dr. Gaines did not take the heart out of the practice, Dr. Gal did that when he sent out that e-mail. He mislead alot of people. He really did the community a disservice. So, anyone that has a pet I reccommend you try Log Cabin Animal Hospital.
Um actually this article is inaccurate. When I recently visited Log Cabin Animal Hospital the staff was great and Dr. Gaines was very very nice and very hospitable. He has not taken the heart out of the business in fact I do not believe removing Dr. Gal from the practice ruined the practice but in fact made it better. Also prices have been revised and are much more realistic. When I was there Dr. Gaines told me how he has been sacrificing time from his other two practices in Louisville, Kentucky and with his family of a wife and two kids to work every Thursday and Friday for the past 2+ months. Dr. Gaines was very nice and provided just as good if not better service than the previous owner Dr. Gal. So i suggest that this article be revised and proper and accurate facts be included not these inaccurate and not truthful facts.
Also I have to say that this article has a very sarcastic and demeaning tone towards Dr. Gaines which I don’t appreciate.
hmmm, any other family members want to chime in? Sorry, but I drove by there four times last week on 3 different days. No one was even there. And sorry, I received the email that supposedly “took the heart out of the practice”, it was anything but that. All it said was he had sold the practice. At the time, Dr. Gal was supposed to stick around and help in the transition. Then, a week or so later, he was told to leave. Then, the one staff person that remained, was instructing people to go to another nearby vet if they needed treatment. Now, if you are saying things are different, I would be happy to update everyone. However, I’m still seeing a vacant building with few customers, if any. You should have kept Dr. Gal involved somehow instead of kicking him to the curb. A “practice” is more than a client list and a building.
I recently had the chance to meet with Dr. Gaines and his staff when they took excellent care of my dog. Dr. Gaines really cares about the animals and strives to do all he can to rebuild the practice after all of the false allegations posted by Dr. Gal. I urge everyone to give the clinic a chance. I am told a new doctor is starting next week and they will have extended hours. I felt very comfortable with this animal hospital and would take any of my pets there.
Just to let the eveyone know Log Cabin Animal Hospital is open and fully staffed. Driving by a building and not necessarily seeing cars or people does not mean there is no one in the building. Tom, you could have called the practice or better yet stopped in to verify if anyone was at Log Cabin Animal Hospital. As a matter of fact we would like to invite you to stop in and meet Dr. Erin Smythe,Dr. Gaines, and all of our new support staff. We would like nothing more than meet you and show you that we are fully operational. Hope to see you soon, Donna Gaines (Dr. Gaines’ Wife)
