LN Spirit Committee Makes Big Contribution
LN Spirit Committee members Megan Anderson, Catrina Cranfill, and Emily Massel presented a check for $5000 to Karin Schwab, director of development for the Susan G. Komen Foundation of Indianapolis, at LN’s home boys basketball game Friday, Jan. 9.
In March of 2008, the Spirit Committee, headed by sophomore Emily Massel, decided to make a commitment to charity. Throughout the summer and school year, they found corporate sponsors, sold T-shirts and held silent auctions. They sponsored Play 4 Pink during one of LN’s home volleyball games where the entire night was dedicated to the foundation. LN’s Homecoming also turned into Play 4 Pink as all proceeds went to the foundation.
“It was a lot of hard work,” said Massel. “After hundreds of hours of work over the course of a year, it was wonderful to see it finally pay off. I kept telling everyone a Wayne Gretzky quote: “100 percent of the shots never taken, don’t go in.”
