Celebrating their 30th anniversary, the Lawrence Township School Foundation will host the inaugural “Unite and Ignite 5K Fun Run: A Community A-Fair” Saturday, November 9 in partnership with Community Health Network. The run will be held at Lawrence Community Park, 5207 N. Franklin Rd., at 9 am.
Lawrence Township Schools place a high importance on physical fitness and encourage an active and healthy lifestyle. Their “Up and Running” program provides mentoring and training for students to run two races each semester including the Jingle Bell Run and the Geist Half/5K. The students meet two times per week to train and prepare for the event. The program has become very successful for the township.
As a result of the “Light Their Future Celebration,” Foundation Executive Director Cori Korn said they felt it was the perfect time to create a run that will benefit the students and programs they provide. With the partnership of Community Health Network, the run will “ignite the power of community” by involving students and their families and friends.
After the run, Community Health Network is partnering with the Foundation to provide a free health fair with onsite health screenings and informational booths for run participants and spectators. Honorary Race Chairman Pamela Jessup, wife of Mayor Dean Jessup, explained, “A few years ago, Lawrence was one of the communities chosen by the Centers for Disease Control for their Healthy Communities Program. The Mayor and I are committed to earning a place for Lawrence on that list again. Getting our youth involved in physical activities is one way to influence their future and work toward that goal. A great way to start is to unite our schools, businesses and residents to participate in this 5K run to benefit our Lawrence Township Schools.”
The Foundation is still seeking sponsorships and support of the inaugural event. If your company would like to participate, please contact Cori Korn at the Lawrence Township School Foundation office at email@example.com.
Registration is open at www.msdltf.org until November 7. The race is open to people of all ages, beginner or experienced participants, so come out and support Lawrence Township Schools and enjoy a fun, family-friendly event.
