Lawrence Township Dads: Get in the Game with Sons at Sports Spectacular

“Dads are spending less time with their children because of the economic downturn,” claims a new study. A poll by Airfix says 45 percent of fathers feel their “hands-on” role has diminished, and more than half of those men blame longer working hours. Dads now spend less than 10 hours a week playing with their children because of bigger work pressures. Nearly one-fifth admit they’re becoming jealous at the amount of time their partner gets to spend with the youngsters, states a December 2008 study published on www.raisingkids.com.

This said, how about some good news for Dads? A fundraiser that combines quality time and support for area schools is planned for next month. The Lawrence Township School Foundation’s second annual “Dads & Lads Sports Spectacular” is gearing up for Friday, February 20th from 7:00 pm to midnight at Sports of All Sorts/Snapperz (6002 Sunnyside Road).  This event is for all fathers/guardians and sons in grades 3-8.

The purpose of the Sports Spectacular is to provide a fun and memorable evening of father/son sports activities and to raise funds to benefit Lawrence Township students. Forest Glen Elementary 4th grader Kyle Harris commented (to Mom): “ I plan to again have lots of fun with my dad, and this time, I will beat him in bowling!”

Planned activities include: Father/son athletic competitions, dodge ball, basketball, flag football, soccer, rock climbing wall, obstacle course, bungee trampoline, free snacks and more! Registration, which is $20 per person, will be available online at www.msdltf.org.

Corporate sponsorship opportunities are available.  Since its inception, the Foundation has given back over $2.4 million to Lawrence Township schools through classroom grants, innovative educational programs and scholarships.
