Lawrence North High School is celebrating Black History Month and is challenging its students to be informed about the state of our global community and celebrate the past musical accomplishments of the Motown era.
During the month of February, student organizations are banding together to raise monies to support the humanitarian mission of the International Justice Mission. The International Justice Mission is a human rights agency that secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. IJM lawyers, investigators and aftercare professionals work with local officials to ensure immediate victim rescue and aftercare, to prosecute perpetrators and to promote functioning public justice systems. The monetary goal is $1,000 raised by the end of the month of February.
“Our goal is to not only raise funds, but to raise minds to look beyond the borders of the United States and help other young people that are less fortunate”, says Assistant Principal Eric Floyd, “Students are amazed that slavery still exists in the world today”.
The community is welcome to donate towards the International Justice Mission fundraiser by sending your check or money order made out to Lawrence North High School and write in the memo “IJM Fundraiser”. For more information about IJM you may go on their website www.ijm.org.
