HSE Board to consider newest redistricting map at Monday meeting

Hamilton Southeastern Schools Redistricting Committee has posted a new proposed elementary attendance map on its web site (www.hse.k12.in.us), and the Board of School Trustees is expected to consider it for a vote at Monday night’s meeting. In this newest map, the committee blended parts of the first two proposals after parents and Board members provided input at the January 14 meeting. The differences between this third proposal and the second one include the following:
Keeping the Estates of Meadowbrook and Meadowbrook Village together attending Hoosier Road Elementary as in the first proposal.
Moving Cumberland Crossing Apartments to Cumberland Road Elementary.
Returning the Bristols community to Brooks School Elementary like the first proposal.
Returning Creekside subdivision to Sand Creek Elementary like on the first map.

The committee believes one benefit of the newest map is that it moves three schools in the center of the district close to being stabilized — Lantern Road Elementary, Cumberland Road Elementary and Hoosier Road Elementary. It also reduces Sand Creek Elementary’s initial enrollment allowing space for expected growth. In addition, the potential explosive growth projected at Thorp Creek Elementary and Geist Elementary will now be more evenly spread between the two schools.

Parents may address the Board Monday night by signing up by 6:55 p.m. before the meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Administration Center.
