Artists from Hamilton Southeastern Schools and Lawrence Township Schools placed well at the Central Indiana Scholastic Art Awards competition Saturday. Over 1,500 pieces were entered at the regional level contest with a jury of 12 professional artists judging the show at the Herron School of Art and Design. The Gold Key is the highest regional award and qualifies a winner at this level to go to the national competition. Silver Key is the second highest regional award followed by honorable mention.

The regional awards ceremony will take place at Herron School of Art and Design on Saturday, February 23. The high school awards will be presented at 4 p.m., and junior high, 3 p.m. The exhibition will remain on view at Herron in the Marsh Galleries the week of February 25 – March 1. Herron is located at 735 W. New York Street , Indianapolis .
The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is the largest and longest running recognition program for young people in the country. The purpose of the awards is to promote and recognize excellence in the visual arts for central Indiana students in grade 7-12 through sponsorship of an annual art competition and exhibition of winning works.
