The empty coffee shop along Olio Road in the Kroger complex—formerly Higher Grounds—is set to re-open on April 1st with new ownership and a new name.
The shop will be called “Gourmet Grounds of Geist…a gathering place.” It will offer pastries, gourmet coffees (some of the same Higher Grounds beans), teas, a myriad of smoothies, gourmet sandwiches, soups and salads.
The new Owner — Purrs & Gurrs Owner Cristi Melson — says she is excited to open what was once a popular coffee spot.
“I just want it to be a little more neighborly,” says Cristi. “I want to have the name Geist in there, and I want to have fun weekly specials, such as entertainment like open mic nights and monthly story time days for moms and children with box lunches and a take home craft. We will also feature the work of local artists.”
Cristi, who will now be splitting her time between Purrs and Gurrs Pet Shop (in the same shopping center at Olio and 116th) and the new coffee shop, says she is excited about the new offering and is ready to go!
The shop is set to open for business on April 1st, and a grand opening celebration is planned for April 15, 2009. A special celebration is in the works for tax day!
“In the spirit of the Boston Tea Party, we will be revolting against taxes by picking up all sales tax for the day and donating the money to a local food bank,” says Cristi. Look for more details coming on the special tax day promotion. In the meantime, check out the new “Gourmet Grounds of Geist” in April for a great cup of coffee and a snack!
See you there!
