Geist Jazzercise at 11691 Fox Road is celebrating a “moving” milestone — the fitness center’s five year anniversary!
If you don’t know much about Jazzercise, it is the quintessential dancing aerobic exercise of the 80’s which is enjoying a huge revival these days. It is cardio, jazz dance, pilates and resistance training all rolled into a 60-minutes class that promises to burn about 500 calories a session.
Franchise Owner Heidi Tumbarello was working as a physical therapist at Community Hospital network when she became a Jazzercise instructor in 1999 at Christ Presbyterian Church. She decided to strike out on her own in 2004 and leased her own spot in the Marsh Shopping center.
“I opened with 30 members and offered 18 classes a week,” recalls Heidi. “Problem was, I was the only instructor, so, I was one busy gal!”
Today, the Geist Jazzercise center has eight instructors and three subs and offers more than 30 classes to nearly 220 members.
“2008 has been our best year yet, and we are still growing!” says Heidi.
The 52-year-old, German-born instructor, who – as her husband would say—has more moves than a Swiss clock—is holding an open house January 31st for current customers to celebrate the anniversary. Congrats Geist Jazzercise!
