Geist Elementary placed second in the school division of the Re-Dome Art Contest on August 6. Students created the banner during the last weeks of the 2009-10 school year and submitted it to the Keep Indianapolis Beautiful Re-Dome Art Contest. The fabric from the razed RCA Dome was offered to schools and artists as a way to keep the material from ending up in a landfill. According to art teacher Erin Green, Geist students brought in “trash” items from home, which were then cut and collaged onto the dome fabric. The banner will be permanently installed at the entrance of the school in the future.
