The Geist area Church, Abounding Grace ( 62nd and Sunnyside Road) is asking for a little help this holiday season, after a fire destroyed its sister Church on the Eastside.
Bell’s Chapel Church of God burned down November 9th at 42nd and Mitthoeffer Road. Fire officials say an electrical outlet in the building is to blame. Bishop Adrienne Holmes, a Geist resident, says they plan to rebuild, but in the meantime, a community is without its church and daycare, which served more than 100 children.
“I stand on that corner and pray for that community every morning,” says Holmes. “The church itself is just a building; it is the people that make it a Church, and we want to build it back up and be the blessing it was to that community.”
For now, some of the congregation from the east-side church are making the way over to the Geist Church for worship services, and some of the displaced kids from the daycare are also heading this way– making for a full house at Abounding Grace!
They are asking for some help with supplies and even some volunteers to help with the children trying to adjust to their new daycare facility.
Supplies needed include sippy cups, high chairs, blankets, diapers, baby wipes, pull-ups (size 3, 4), large and small bibs, coloring books for Kindergarten, freezer/fridge bags for food storage and VHS Children’s movies.
The Food pantry and clothing give-away will continue from a building near the site of the east-side church during the holiday season.
