Geist 5K Race SOLD OUT, Half Marathon Expected to Sell Out Soon

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/NKikAfrUCLo" width="300" height="250" wmode="transparent" /]The inaugural Geist 5K “Race Around the Reservoir” is sold out thanks to a very successful “Healthy Kids Incentive Program” in the local schools. Over 2,000 participants have already registered for the 5K race on May 17th, over 1,300 of which are kids from Lawrence Township, Hamilton Southeastern, Mt. Vernon, and other area schools.

“I recommended to the Geist Half Marathon Inc. board today that we close registrations for the 5K race due to the high number of participants in a first-time race,” said Jeff Graves, race director for the Geist Half Marathon & 5K. “Being our first year, we want to insure we put on a first-class event for all those that have registered.”

Participants can register online via the GeistHalf.com website through Saturday, April 12th at midnight. On Sunday, the 5K will officially be closed to new registrants.  Students registering through their schools can still sign up through their “Healthy Kids Incentive Programs,” but outside registration will be closed.

Half Marathon registrations are also on pace to sell out soon. Only 400 spots are left and race organizers expect those to go fast.

Likewise, the May Marathon Club Presented by Runners Forum is being limited to the first 350 registrants as well. Runners that participate in any other sanctioned 13.1 mile race in the month of May and complete the Geist Half Marathon will receive a commemorative technical shirt and induction into the “May Marathon Club.”

All proceeds from the Geist Half Marathon & 5K benefit the local schools’ health and wellness programs.
