Fishers Town Hall Hearing Gives Council and Ear Full

Hundreds of residents came out last night, giving up last minute shopping and Christmas celebrations, to tell the Fishers Town Council their thoughts on forced annexation. Led by the Geist United Opposition, residents stood up one by one to speak their peace and let the Town Council members know that they are abusing Indiana’s antiquated annexation laws.

Pete Peterson, President of the GUO led of the speakers with a :40 minute speech. He articulated the changes that are being proposed and that need to happen at the state level to do away with forced annexation forever in Indiana. Following Peterson were other GUO board members including Jay Hacker, Rachel Quade, Ken Stank, Ann Vaughn, and Mike Fisher.

“A short time ago I was driving and I heard on the radio ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’ and I though it was a news alert about Fishers,” said Joe Weingarten. “I then found out it was a play about some con men and but maybe it is a play about Fishers.”

All told, the hearing lasted until 8:20 pm when everyone had spoken that wanted to speak. Only two people stood up in support of Fishers. Perhaps the funniest part of the evening was Fishers attorney Doug Church reading two letters from residents into the record. If I had known that he would read letters into the record, I would have written something like “I’m against forced annexation, and I like to wear pink panties in the courtroom” just to see if he’d read it.

Video from last night will be available on the Fishers website soon. I’ll post a link to it so you all can see it over the holidays.

  • I could not see the nameplate, but who was the gentleman to the left (from the crowd facing the council) of Mr. Faultless last night? If one were to use a picture for the word pompous, then that gentleman would have been perfect.

When I was there I heard not a single person in favor of the annexation. If that’s not quite clear as to how the town council should vote, then all of Fishers should be worried as they are not acting in the best interest of anyone except themselves.

Seeing them all up there, it reminded of a title of a book I loved; “A Confederacy of Dunces”.
