In Fishers, Terry Michael, Fall Creek Township Trustee, is setting up a food pantry in the basement of the former Fall Creek Township assessor’s office. This new pantry is scheduled to open by Thanksgiving.
“Over 2,600 Fall Creek residents have used food pantries in the last eight months,” says Michael. “We hope to take some of the strain off of the other area pantries and provide for our own residents.”
“We’re seeing 25-30 families per week,” said Nancy Bennett, an assistant in the Trustee’s office. Bennett spends the majority of her time counseling walk-in traffic that are caught in an economic hard spot.
“Nobody is immune to financial hardships. We’ve had families from some of Geist’s most affluent neighborhoods come in and ask for help,” she added.
Donations can be dropped off at the Fall Creek Township Trustee’s office (11595 Brooks School Rd.). Items such as canned good, toiletry items, and other hard goods are welcome. Call (317) 841-3180 if you have questions or to find out how you can help.
