Forest Glen Elementary’s multi-age classroom, better known as the BEES (Brown & Ensminger’s Exceptional Students), is working on a project to donate a bee hive to a struggling family abroad.
The children in Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Ensminger’s combined 2nd and 3rd grade class are doing chores at home such as; raking leaves, vacuuming and cleaning cat litter boxes to earn $1 or $2. They will then pool their earnings together in order to purchase a bee hive through Heifer Foundation.
The bee hive will be given to a struggling family so that they may earn income through the sale of honey, beeswax and pollen. Heifer will provide the family with a package of bees, the box and hive, plus training in beekeeping. An added benefit is that the bees will help pollinate plants in the area which can as much as double some fruit and vegetable yields. In this way, a beehive can be a boost to a whole village.
