Another water test expected early next week

I’ve been trading emails with Dr. Lenore Tedesco at the Center for Earth and Environmental Science this week getting updates on the blue green toxic algae on Geist. She believes that there might be another sample pulled next Monday and sent out for testing. Her latest email to me said:

There is no one with any mandate to test. Indianapolis Water/Veolia only increase monitoring when considering treatment and only test within framework of permit triggers. They are not in that situation.

CEES stepped in to monitor and test because of the vacuum and our research interests. We are considering another round of tests but will wait and see if we get rain and reduced cell counts before making a decision – likely on Monday. We do not have funding for this effort so I am utilizing general operations funds and will continue to do so.

I’m sure she will update me next week, in the meantime, remember the advisory that the State Board of Health has issued and refrain from swallowing, cooking with, swimming in, or taking your livestock for a swim in Geist Reservoir.
